Prog Rock Mag reports:
"In October, Yes will re-release the 1972 album Close To The Edge. Again, this will be available in CD/DVD-A and CD/Blu-ray formats with additional tracks, plus new stereo and 5.1 mixes from Steven Wilson."

Well this could be very good. SW probably would not work on it unless he thought it would turn out well. I thought that I'd read once that they had lost some of the master tapes for CTTE and that all of the subsequent "remasters" were based upon second generation recordings. Is that right?

I'd guess the band itself has nothing to do with the project, but I would really love to see SW bless them by doing a bit of writing and producing for whatever new recording they may attempt. All due respect to Trevor Horn, but I think they could really use someone like SW.

The band having nothing to do with it might be a good sign. Original masters would be good news too. Additional tracks? I am skeptical that anything of any value to listen to will be found.

Reports about 10 years ago suggested that the multitrack tapes for LP
side 2 (AYAI and SK) could not be located. (This was around the time
that Rhino came out with DVD-A surround versions of _Fragile_ and
_Magnification_.) Either the multitracks for the entire _CTTE_ album
have shown up since then, OR...

Maybe his new mixes will just be available for LP side 1 and whatever
'additional tracks' he comes up with?? The precedent being: when Wilson
did his new stereo and 5.1 mixes for ELP's first album, he left out 2/3
of "The 3 Fates" and all of "Tank" because there were no multitrack
tapes available to work with. He replaced them in the running order with
'additional tracks'.

Steven Wilson sounds busier than Trevor Horn these days. Good luck with
that.

It would seem the multi's have been located, since the "stems" for all 3 songs have been up on a website for a while. Also, I would imagine that if SW couldn't remix the whole album in 5.1, they wouldn't choose to start this series of 5.1 re-issues w/ an incomplete album.

I am so psyched about this- the holy grail of surround sound for me. I've been dying for this ever since I got my 1st surround disc (Fragile dvd-a). Gotta love SW- the new wizard of surround. His Raven BR is the best (new) thing I've heard in years. Still kicking myself for skipping PT when they opened for Yes. (I like "fresh ears" before seeing my fave group- even skipped Kansas when they opened- a band I really like)

As for additional tracks- how about a proper 5.1 treatment for America? (sans SH's noodling that really hurt the version on the Fragile dvd-a imo) And maybe live versions of all the CTTE songs done in 5.1! (Really dreaming now)

For me the Two I want Wilson to tackle are Relayer and Olias. I think Olias
could be extremely effective as 5.1 if all of the separate tracks are still
in the Vaults.
