While not as stellar as Yes's earlier albums, "Drama" is almost as good as GFTO, and better than "Tormato", and the best Yes album up until KTA in 1996, Imo...

I don't rate it quite that highly, but "Tempus Fugit" is worth a listen.

I loved it from the very first listen. It probably helped that my
expectations at the time were very low for a Yes album without Anderson
(hmm...), but I liked the then-new sound. I still enjoy Drama, and sought
out and enjoyed the 1st Buggles album on the basis of Horn and Downes' work
on it.

Very solid. Definitely better than _Tormato_, but not as good as _GFTO_...yet hard to compare the two since they are so different. _Drama_ brought Yes into the 80s. The sheer force of "Machine Messiah" wipes away the memory of the anemic-sounding _Tormato_. Love Howe's playing on it and it seems like a really good band effort. Still holds up.

When it came out, I was so disappointed that it lacked Anderson's voice and influence. Did not know at the time that he'd brought tunes that ended up on Song of Seven to the dance and that Chris and Steve just couldn't go there. Jon wanted to go more spacey and lighter really it seems. But whenever I listen to Song of Seven, that tune, I wonder how it might have turned out with the rest of the band involved.

So, at the time, Drama seemed rather lacking in soul, but I could appreciate the work of the rhythm section and always liked "Tempus Fugit." Over time, grew to respect the work on that one as the band wandered through different incarnations in the 80's and 90's.

Is it better than Tormato? Not for me...I'd rather dust off Tormato given the choice. Better than Open Your Eyes, Big Generator, Side one of Talk, Much of Union and the studio material on KTA I? Yup...I'd go there.
