Interesting, saw this on AV club, which is a great webpage by and by.

Did they get this tempo from Alan White?

Is it technically a cover when all you use is the lyrics?

In the heat of the moment they forgot what they were covering...Asia is a big land mass, it's easy to get lost

Speaking of Asia, I saw them last month in Hartford. About 60 people showed
up. The theater sits 300. By far, the poorest attended concert I've seen.
There was nobody sitting past the 5th row, so at least everyone there got a
good seat. Usually shows like this get cancelled for lack of ticket sales,
but for whatever reason the show went ahead as scheduled.

The show wasn't bad at all. The new guitarist was okay. Definitely less
grumpy than Steve. The best part was the announcement as everyone was
leaving, asking everyone to stop at the merchandise table on the way out.
They mentioned that the band were selling "Heat of the Moment" oven mitts.

Still big in Japan though, in a Spinal-Tappish sort of way:

I wonder if the oven mitts were as soft as "Joe DiMaggio's Glove"?...
_Gravitas_ jokes are very difficult because... well, the gravitas...

Speaking of John Wetton, I saw one of his former bands last Saturday
playing the third of three shows in a ~1000-seat theater in Chicago. The
Wetton-era was well represented by "Red", "One More Red Nightmare",
"Larks Tongues In Aspic 1", "The Talking Drum", "Larks Tongues In Aspic
2" and "Starless".

I saw the same band you mentioned in Albany, four days prior to seeing
Asia. Definitely more than 60 at that one. We were threatened with flogging
if we took any pictures.

The next line-up will feature Fripp and 60 drummers on stage. And none
of them will be named Bruford.

Just when the therapy was helping Bill get past his bitterness about YES.

I'm surprised Asia ever sold more than 60 tickets to a concert. One of the big disappointments of the 80's as prog rock went listless. When the band was first announced myself and my musical friends were anticipating something big and bold. Heat of the Moment, aghhh, the worst of ELP, meets Foreigner, with Steve Howe noodling aimlessly throughout the album.

Now the oven mitts, can you get those online?

;-)

I used to feel the exact same way about Asia. I didn't really get into
their music until after they broke up (the first time). Now I enjoy the
mix of pop sensibility with some proggy underpinnings. I've always liked
Wetton's songs and voice, regardless of wether it was U.K., Asia, or solo.
Once I got over Asia's emphasis on simpler songs rather than longer,
proggier pieces, I was able to enjoy them for what they were rather than
what they weren't (Yes II). YMMV of course.

It was a brand new theater that I wanted to check out.
