Greetings AMY folks,

went all in on the Anderson-Ponty Band project with $500 dollar "meet and greet" package for Aspen premiere concert.

I am intrigued by the idea of classic YES tunes and Jean-Luc Ponty music being reworked, rearranged. New music from two great songwriters, the first snippets sound interesting.

Now, I know we are trying not to be negative around here thanks to Paul's pontifications and protests. So, I don't want to point out that some were cynical about the Kickstarter thing working. Seems Jon and Jean-Luc surpassed their goal and have raised over 95K.

Makes sense to me to support them in this way, because the nature of the music world as my son-in-law can attest, is that folks don't 'buy' music much anymore. The H&E CD sales don't include all the soundcloud, youtube and other listens.

I want to hear the music, so I'll pay the musicians in a new way.

Anyone else going to Aspen show?

Seems to me it isn't me with the "issues", Jim, since you're taking a run at me with every post now, it seems. But do carry on, I like the attention, reminds me of the applause I used to enjoy in my band days ;)

......but back to your post, we actually agree on something. Something like Kickstarter *does* make complete sense in today's musical climate, for all the reasons you state. The most important one for me though is removing the label--the "suits", from the equation, in essence taking things back to the mindset of the early 70's where bands recorded the music *they* wanted to record, without any interference, cries of "I'm not hearing a single", or making a small fraction of each unit sold, where industry bookkeeping was at best shady and at worst an enormous ripoff. I can't justify the expense of a trip to Aspen, but very much looking forward to hearing the results, been a long time since JA fronted an actual band for anything more than a one-off, be good to hear him singing in front of one rather than the vocal/strum stuff he's been doing live for the past few years.
