Time flies - I still think of this as a "new" record. Of course, I remember when I bought Relayer upon its release, and one of my mates said it was not as good as the old stuff.
I enjoyed Talk a lot when it came out. Certain tunes I preferred right off such as "Real Love", "Endless Dream" and "I am Waiting". The pop tunes like "Walls" and "The Calling", not as much, but they were all right. 20 years, later, I think I have the same view, and I still enjoy the record. For quite some time Anderson has talked of performing it live and if he did that in a rock band context I would go out of my way to attend.
My earliest memory of an internet forum or perhaps chat room was in 1994, and there was a handful of people debating the various things to debate over the Talk record. Not as good without Steve Howe or Rick Wakeman, etc etc. Some things do not change so much!

Anyway, here is an article I spotted which looks back on Talk, as well as some comments from Rabin about the Union record.

By coincidence, alt.music.yes was also created 20 years ago:

Newsgroups: alt.config
Subject: cmsg newgroup alt.music.yes
Control: newgroup alt.music.yes

Alt.music.Yes was discussed on alt.config and alt.music.progressive with
nothing but support from people wanting a newsgroup devoted to the band
Yes, and from people wanting Yes discussion moved out of a.m.p.

Always felt Talk was the best of the Rabin-era albums, surprisingly good in concert that year too. My only real gripe, and this applies actually to all the Yeswest tours, is the overuse & over-reliance on backing tapes live-- prerecorded backing vocals especially. I have a boot of I Am Waiting in which the backing tapes near the end are ludicrously loud, it's very obvious what's going on. Same with Alan having a vocal mic just for Leave It (& no other song) on the 90125 tour. If you can't pull it off genuinely live, don't play it. Or hire additional musicians to do it.

Alan needed that vocal mic on tour because he wrote *and sang* all the
vocals on "Leave It" in the studio...
