OK, I've had the chance to give the Blu Ray a listen.
Right from the start - the opening to CTTE sounds very cool and even the bird sounds have had some attention. I will not give a lengthy review, but it is certainly an appropriate purchase for the sort of person who would spend time on a.m.y or other forums.
Vocals mostly in the front of the room. Instruments take turns in different spots. The snare drum sound is great here.....cool to hear the Mellotron coming from one corner of the room while the moog is playing from the other corner (simultaneously, for example during the "apocalypse" section of AYAI.
I do not have 5.1 in any of my cars. I think this would be perfect for a car with true surround. Playing it at home requires you to sit still in the middle of the room to get the full thrill. Makes me realize how much moving about I tend to do even when just sitting down to listen to music.
I did throw the included CD of "new" stereo mixes on in the car, and I think it's the best remaster I have of CTTE, even without the 5.1 mix. That said, it is time to go get a car with 5.1
While I'm sure it would rank low on the list of 70's records to get the Wilson treatment, I think I'd most like to have him do Tormato. Get those old tapes, reconcile the issue with half of the tapes using Dolby and the other half not using Dolby. Create a little space between the thousands of notes played by RW and SH.
Anyway - a worthy buy, this "new" CTTE
