I'm feeling my mortality with a birthday coming up.
Last night I realized some of this comes from the loss of Squire, Emerson, Lake, and now Wetton. 3 of the best singer/songwriter/bassists (and in the case of Lake, some sweet guitar), and arguably, it was a toss-up for the top spot between Emo and Rick in their day).***
My "heroes". The talents I looked up to. Took me a long time to get past Asia (except last decade) to fully appreciate Wetton. But, I still listen to "Night After Night" on a regular basis.
True, Bowie, many others. But, essentially I'm a prog fan at the core.
J Geils of "natural causes" at age 71. Not that I was a J. Geils fan, but the rock and roll life style seems to have an age limit/expiration date of around 70 years old.
As a friend of mine summarized, it is the passing of the old guard.
Any thoughts on this?
I realize that I am garbling ideas together. I benefit from editing about 3 times longer than the time it takes me to type out. But don't have that time.
***(Moraz at his many different peaks was my favorite. However, I've come to a sublime appreciation of how remarkable Jobson is in his voicing/sounds; lead vs support, and all around variety of style. How many, 21 Clio awards? Same thing with Rabin-- how many soundtracks? Rick was a bit predictable).
