I Got Caught Up In The Lengthy Footnote On Page 83... It Described
a.m.y's 'Notable Quotes & Shameless Flames' For December 31st, 2013...

=====
: If You Seek amy...

PAUL WESCOTT:
MarkF's weekly NQ&SF compilations used to be an absolute highlight of
amy. I miss them a lot, but then again, perhaps the material just isn't
there any more.

ROJON:
it would seem odd to have an award show when there are only like 5 of us.

CHRIS JEMMETT:
As we used to say when Len or Mark or Matt skipped a week or more:
We just sucked this week.
Only now it is more like we been real bad for about a half a decade.

[Editor's Note - Sorry, NOT going back half a decade... Set the dial to
2011...]

=====
: 'Cause His Maw Gets Raw, Withdraws, With Its Flaws, And Benoit, Is
Capsized...

CHRIS JEMMETT:
Benoit got sick and could not continue, see you in the spring. Simple,
really.

CLOSE TO THE HEDGE:
They should get someone to replace BD for a few live shows. Jon
Anderson, for instance. I'm sure he could do a fine job singing just
like Benoit sounding like Horn sounding like Anderson sounding like Horn
sounding like whatever Benoit himself sounds like. Not necessarily in
that order, of course.

CARL BENSON:
They damn well better make sure the ticket buying audience knows ahead
of time that Benoit won't be there.

=====
: In The Dark, Where The Obvious Is Unclear...

CHRIS JEMMETT:
I do remember the littering of tone deaf idiots (shills?) around the web
posting shit like "he [Benoit] sounds just like Jon". Hey, didn’t Squire
say that too?

PETER:
Per Howe, all you have to do is "close your eyes"

ROB ALLEN:
meanwhile, Howe plays most of the show with his eyes wide open...
sometimes *very* wide open.
"so he's _gotta know_"

PETER:
He probably keeps his monitor earbuds up really loud

=====
: Going For The One-Liners...

PAUL GOODWIN:
Q: How do you know it's Alan White at your door?
A: The knock is really slow.

Q: How do you know it's Benoit David at your door?
A: He can't find the key & doesn't know when to come in.

Chris Squire was so depressed about his lousy timing onstage that he
threw himself *behind* a train.

Q: What were the three most difficult years of Geoff Downes' life?
A: Second grade.

Q: What does Steve Howe use for birth control?
A: His personality.

=====
: Machine, Machine Pariah...

TBC:
I just found out that Downes IS allegedly posting under the ID
Caravanserai. [surreptitiously at Yesfans.com]

RICK:
Next he'll be posting as Steve Nardelli.

TEAKBOIS:
If he was smart, he would use a VPN for one of the accounts.

ROB ALLEN:
if he was smart, he wouldn't be posting there at all.
"I think _smart_ has been ruled out"

=====
: Voices, Not For Yes...

KEVIN CAFFREY:
Wise advice from BD's doctor...
"Stop touring for the foreseeable future... you shouldn't be singing."
What most listeners with hearing have been saying for three years.

ROJON:
was prob a no jon no yesser

=====
: Tales From Topographic Aww-shits...

JT:
They have become a cruise ship band.
The end has come.
This band has no respect left for itself.

LOZ:
My sister and her husband have signed up for one of these cruises.
As of today:
* I have no Yes CDs, I've burnt them
* I have no sister or brother-in-law, I've disowned them
Now let us never speak of this again.

JT:
Should we put AMY to rest too?
Not much happening around here anymore anyway.

IL_WEREO:
This is the BEST NEWS I've heard awl day.

PAUL GOODWIN:
No wereotroll, the *best* news for me would be the *cough* ~sad~ news
that you had passed away.
"awl the internets would rejoice"

LOZ:
The wearytroll passed away? I didn't even know he was ill.
Hmm. Let me go get my care face and...
oh yeah. I don't have one. Never mind. Carry on.

=====
: Throng Of Kevin...

CHUCK:
AMY sure did become quite predictable... and not in a good way. I'll
never tire of talking about Yes music... I think its depth is all but
limitless. This just is no longer the compelling forum for it... blame
whom you will.

KEVIN CAFFREY:
I'm still here, so clearly this newsgroup is still awesome.

[Editor's Note - I'll have whatever he's having...]

=====
: Anchor What?...

DAVE:
[Feb. 28, 2013] I have a spot for one more roommate on the Upcoming Yes
cruise at the end of March!
[the next day] Still looking for one more roomate! Isn't this your YOLO
momment?!?

ROB ALLEN:
I really do love unintentional comedy.
"YOLO is one of the many reasons *not* to sign on for something like this"

CHRIS JEMMETT:
Is there gonna be like, girls or what?

MARKF:
Tangerine Dream looks like it currently has three female members, and
IO-Earth looks like it has one... So I'd estimate the ship will have 4
girls, max.

DAVE:
I am sure there will be women on the trip, but based on comments to this
thread, it doesnt matter where they are, you will still be ignored by them.

PAUL GOODWIN:
I'm certain they'll be flocking to your spacious ~inside~ berth (lol),
to marvel in the sight of you & your roomies, glasses, graying hair &
baldspot/receding hairlines, & faded 90125 tour t-shirts stretched
tightly over your ponderous beer bellies. Ooh baby, every chicks ~wet
dream~ come true.

ROB ALLEN:
What better company is there for a girl than a middle aged guy who's not
done very well for himself and is happy to bunk with other guys so he
can get on a boat in order to idolize a bunch of other guys?

MARKF:
Stop spoiling his YOLO moment.

=====
: Captain's Prog...

GLASS ONYON PR:
For Immediate Release - William Shatner To Release Highly Anticipated
Prog Rock Album Produced By Billy Sherwood (of Yes) With A Stellar
Line-Up Of Guest Artists

KEVIN CAFFREY:
But I have to ask, has BS ever written a song that sounds different from
any of his other songs?

TRUE:
Watching this video, BS looks as if he is not taking care of his health.

MARKF:
BS looks extremely robust for an 82 year old man.
"BS = Bill Shatner, right?"

=====
: Chet, Chet Is...

CHET KLOCK:
If you thought YES was Supernatural then you should look for Misty
Edwards. The holy-spirit attends these events, from what I can tell.

PAUL GOODWIN:
I see you finally got the parts you needed to fix that WebTV.

CHET KLOCK:
I replaced the webtv, so I can watch and upload at Youtube.
I don't know how to reply at newsgroups. Or do I?
I don't know what I'm doing.

MARKF:
The organization [Misty] works for is the "International House Of
Prayer" which uses the acronym IHOP. (old man voice) In my day, the P in
IHOP stood for *PANCAKES* dammit!

CHET KLOCK:
I'd have to drive hundreds of miles to find one of those pancake shops.
Must be a city thing. [...] Hopefully everyone is still *high in
spirit*. Little did I know that Rob Allen could see into the future. I
do live in my ancient bus, next to the creek. Redwood Creek.
I'm retired. I cut my hair off to blend-in with the cowboys.

=====
: Eventide Delay-ay, Digital Delay-ay- -ay- -ay...

MENG:
[Nov. 11, *2003*] Can anyone tell me who was in the touring band for
Anderson's 1982 (Animation?) tour?

GUY SHIFFMAN:
[Dec. 10, *2013*] It was David Sancious Keyboards, Clem Clempson Guitar,
Stefano Cerri Bass, Guy Shiffman Drums.
I was the drummer on this tour...

PAUL GOODWIN:
Thanks for the reply, even if it did take over 10 years lol.

MARKF:
And I predict he will be back to say "you're welcome" in 2023.

=====
: Days That We Speak, I Believe That You Were Right...

TRUE:
I see there was something called "Yes Day" [Dec. 4, 2013] - how could I
have missed it?
I'm not sure what happened on Yes Day...

ROB ALLEN:
I'll go with: _nothing of note_.

=====
: The Remembering: High, In Memory...

...of the late Peter Banks (1947-2013), without whose band-naming
abilities Dec. 4, 2013, might have been called, for better or worse,
"Life Day" or "World Day"...

...or mainly for worse, "Mabel Greer's Toyshop Day."

Wow, I'm still mentioned, even though I haven't been around in years.

But Chuck, you are around now. Wow, like some kind of Zen koan. If Chuck's not around, can he see posts he's in?

Good to see the summary published...and it's true. Not much of anything happens here anymore. Makes me sort of miss the flame wars and trolls. Well, maybe not.

Sad fact is YES is dead. Long live YES.

Wow, a new NQ&SF

....you know, this makes me miss the old days of amy. Mostly I miss having a place where you could simply say what was on your mind. Amy was a nice combination of things, freedom with a readership. Everyone didn't agree...mostly no one agreed. But no one tried to drown out the dissenting voice. They may have belittled, ridiculed and insulted a dissenting voice. But I don't think I ever saw the notion that anyone should be silenced. I'm not aware of any Internet forum today that has that same readership and freedom combination. You can certainly speak your mind on the net today if you support what the current Yes is doing. I am aware of a couple of sites that riddled with muzzelers, repressors and tiny narrow minded silencers. Amy sadly still enjoys freedom but lets face it, its dead.I can look in on amy twice a year and pretty much see where I last read.

A tragic loss.
--

I don't hate the current Yes, I just find it very very very very very non interesting, and I find extreme great delighting in my lack of interest in posting about it anymore. The only thing that interested me for the last year was the release of Close to the Edge with a new surround mix. That was excellent, more than excellent. But it was the old Yes, wasn't it?

A tragic loss.

Hey, this edition of NQ&SF only goes to show that AMY isn't quite dead, but just a bit sleepy. In fact it's now free of the kind of vitriol that nearly killed it a few years ago. A few old hands - myself included - have posted here wistfully lately, but it's been reasonably rosy here of recent.

Trying very hard now not to make tenuous comparisons to the recent fortunes to a band of our acquaintace...

This is a nice trip down nostalgia lane. But I sure miss the old days, w/ all the different personalities and the fervent discussions. While the activity here may in some ways mirror the group's fortunes, I don't think there's any cause/effect. Yes could be kicking ass, but I'm afraid things wouldn't be much better in amy-land. The internet has grown up in so many ways, these newsgroups have become pretty obsolete. But they sure were great back in the days of taking 3 minutes just to load a .gif file...

Maybe I am mistaken but it seems some who complained the most about AMY now miss it the most.
One of the things I miss the most is being able to talk about all kinds of things with people who knew a lot more about those things than I did.
And funny. Lots of funny.
