The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Announces Nominees for 2014 Induction
As a Rock Hall member, we are pleased to make you among the first to know the nominees for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014:

The Paul Butterfield Blues Band

Chic

Deep Purple

Peter Gabriel

Hall and Oates

KISS

LL Cool J

The Meters

Nirvana

N.W.A.

The Replacements

Linda Ronstadt

Cat Stevens

Link Wray

Yes

The Zombies

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will again offer fans the opportunity to officially participate in the induction selection process. From now until December 10 at 5 p.m. EST, the public can visit www.rockhall.com/vote to cast votes for who they believe to be the most deserving of induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The top five artists, as selected by the public, will constitute a "fans' ballot" that will be tallied along with the other ballots to choose the 2014 inductees.

The 29th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held in April 2014 in New York City. Venue and public ticket sale information will be announced at a later date. The Induction Ceremony will be broadcast on HBO in May.

Well, if it matters to the band, then I hope they do as well. I suppose the way to vote would be to only vote for the one artist you want (the site allows you to vote for multiple artists)so you maximize your candidate relative to the others.

If JA and RW were currently in the band I would have little interest in their HOF status. In this case I do have some interest, since an induction would likely result in an on stage reunion. You would also expect that Bruford would be included, so one more chance to see Bruford on stage would be exciting.

But I don't understand what the HOF is about. They seem to honor an awful lot of artists who don't make rock music. Why is that?

Well I see that JA is asking for fans to vote for the band on his Facebook page, so I will vote and I hope it happens.

"weeeeeeeeee".

ack.

I've never had interest in this so-called HoF and I have no intrst still. Of course, it doesn't help that I've basically lost interest in Yes, as well.

I suppose if this had come up before 2004...or at least before 2008, I'd think that if the band was into it then bravo, it's a good thing, no matter how I might feel about the so-called HoF.

Today, there's still some sort of knock off out there calling itself Yes, playing the same nostalgia show over and again, typically in rooms so small, or to audience so small, they don't fit the name Yes. And as far as JA goes, he said he would release "Ever" in summer 2012 and that never happened, then he said he'd spend less time touring this year, and focus on organizing his new music for release...and that never happened.

So in my view current times shows the Yes brand as a laughing stock and JA as a guy stuck on an acoustic carousel, unable to finish and release _any_ of the volumes of new music he's created.

This is when Yes somehow ~rises~ to a RRHoF nomination?

Actual induction may still be a 'bumpy ride' for Yes.

The only nominee that is a sure bet for induction this year is Nirvana.
Possibly KISS as well. The rest are 'maybe this year/maybe not'. The HoF
favors acts that can generate ticket revenue at the induction ceremonies
and tourism dollars the rest of the year. (Jann Wenner disqualified the
Dave Clark Five on some kind of late-submission technicality one year so
he could make sure there was a rap act among the inductees.)

The disco-era act Chic has been nominated *eight times* so far without
ever being inducted. Not R&RHoF material, I guess. In the same way, I'd
bet the induction committee still won't recognize Yes for a few years,
if ever.

It may not be that much of a long shot. The ceremony for last year's inductees got the most press/coverage for Rush's induction and the razzing that Rolling STone and the HoF took for taking so long to get nominated/inducted -- maybe in the interest of coverage again, Yes will get in since like Rush they were always at the top of the "famous snubs" list. But I suppose if Kiss gets in, this would accomplish the same goal.

Nirvana will likely (and should) get in their first year -- but not sure if this is a big deal to many people since Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters are active and one of the biggest bands in the world so it's not like the general public is yearning for Nirvana coverage.

I'm thinking if Yes *does* get in, the most sensible thing to do would be to induct the Union line-up.

Chic not getting in is a sign that they're doing at least one thing right.
Although that may be the only thing.

I agree with Rob, it's about 20 years too late. Interesting that RRHF are using a photo of Chris playing with The Syn to promote this and even a photo of Chris and Alan playing with The Syn in an interview for Classic Rock magazine promoting a new album for next year. I do wish they would stop riding on the back of The Syn success all the time. http://www.wcsx.com/gmi/Story.aspx?ID=2062366

Well, Jon indicates that he wants the band in there, so that's good enough for me to take a moment to vote, I figure that's the least I can do for all the enjoyment I've gotten out of his & the band's music for 40+ years. I'm just curious as to how it works should they get the nod, who exactly gets inducted? The original lineup? The "classic" lineup? Everyone who's ever played on a Yes album? I can see Rabin & Moraz, but Benoit, Billy & Igor??

Lol at the "Syn success"

Rabin should certainly be included given the commercial success of his contributions. However, Igor and Billy played on more Yes albums than Moraz did, with Benoit tied.

However, I don't think we need to worry about it, as I'm willing to bet there is no way Yes gets in, at least this year. Nirvana is the darling of the RNRHOF crowd, and there probably has to be a rap act (NWA is my guess). Toss in one more out of left field, maybe Link Wray, to show "depth." My votes would go to Yes and Deep Purple.

I don't see a mainstream institution like the RRHoF deciding to include anyone outside of the Union line-up. Banks out of all others might have the most legitimate shot, but I don't think if they are voted in they would be losing any sleep over not inducting Geoff Downes or Billy Sherwood. But who knows....might generate a lot of press to induct ALL prior members!

Presumably anyone/everyone from Yes past & present *could* show up, but not all would be 'officially' inducted...

There seems to be a current issue brewing regarding Pearl Jam's several (ex-)drummers, as to who would be inducted if the band gets in this year:

<http://radio.com/2016/10/19/pearl-jam-dave-abbruzzese-rock-hall-snub/>

It would seem that only the members specifically listed on the Rock Hall's 'official' bio pages would be recognized... If that's the case for all nominees, then the Yes bio page would suggest that the eight members from the "Union Tour" lineup would be the only Yes inductees:

I always feel like these things have a lot to do with whom the Hall can
get to "reunite" at the awards dinner. So...will Perry sing with
Journey? Will Ocasek sing with the Cars? Will Anderson sing with Yes?
Big questions for the committee, behind the scenes. Similarly, ELO's
recent reunion tour will probably influence the committee's decision
more than it should. And if Kraftwerk was picked, the members probably
would either not go to the dinner or send creepy robots or some
such...the Hall wouldn't like that. A black mark for Kraftwerk.

Tupac seems like the most can't-miss candidate. Beyond him, I guess I'll
predict the Cars, Pearl Jam (because Vedder will give a good speech --
it's all about the dinner, I tell ya), the Zombies (because they need
something pre-'70s) and ELO.

From what I've seen, Yes is at the end of a long (alphabetical) list, with no nod to the current, ARW, classic, Chris's passing, etc. One thing I read said that they were inspiration for other synth-driven bands such as Rush. Hahahahaha.

At least they are on the ballot. And that ballot is.........loooooooonnnnng. What percentage gets in? A perfect time, but, I'm not at all counting on a "yes" and "union". Too many BS artists that are more in the public eye. I've never heard MC5, but from what I've read, THEY deserve it.

I'm sure "The Twinkies" or some such will be inducted. Thanks for the link to vote, and the instructions.

ALL of those acts have been inducted, you utter idiot.

Just more proof that about 98% of the people striking grand indignant
poses against the HOF have nowhere near the knowledge/background to take
that stand.
