This vocal style reminds me of someone else, but I can't quite pin it
down... hmm... Dennis DeYoung? no. Don McLean? no... Terry Jacks... no.

He sort of sounds like Dennis DeYoung (the precise enunciation) crossed
with Neil Diamond, with a little bit of the singer from Supertramp who
*isn't* Rodger Hodgson. I hear DeYoung more than anybody else.

I don't hear DeYoung at all, but the Neil Diamond suggestion is spot on, the tone & delivery is ND all the way. The song itself is a bit banal to my ears, not unlike a lot of papa Wakeys filler stuff. Nice artwork though :)

Who does it sounds like to you Mark?

The story is that Oliver wrote this for Yes early on in the sessions
that eventually resulted in _Fly From Here_... I guess it was a bit
banal to Trevor Horn's ears too!

The correct response is:
Benoit David, singing in his 'normal' range.

But I still can't place why it sounds so familiar; I was hoping you
could tell me, Paul!

Compared to the tripe that was on Fly From Here, it's absolutely sublime.

Okay, so I'm not completely crazy! It's fussier sounding (for lack of a
better adjective), but I hear ND in there too.

Midge Ure, singing with an English accent.

Heard the ND right away and then David Cassidy but not quite as strong as ND.
However there is another singer from the era you hint at Jacks/McLean, basically early-mid 70's can't get the name... that sound on some notes , it's right there, it's.... it's OH Damn you!!!

Much sappier than ND. I'd go with Air Supply for $20, Alex.

Sounds like some of Steve Hackett's ill-advised attempts at singing...
